God’s Amazing Interventions !

When we look back at our lives, we observe the various interventions of God. Each of our lives had been moving in a particular direction through various ways. But when God intervenes, it takes a sharp turn. He breaks all the walls of attitudes and beliefs which blocked our advancement. We see His overwhelming love and care breaking through every barrier and flowing into our lives as a mighty flood. Our attitude and response towards God and life changes. Just remember this. Had God not intervened in our lives, where we would be at this point of time ? Such interventions happen again and again in some lives, which marks certain turning points of life……towards God, towards perfection, towards His will. Often, God uses people and circumstances to intervene. But at times, He intervenes directly without using any man or circumstance, which reveals His glory in a more powerful way.
Genesis 22:12. “ And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.” God asked him to offer Isaac, his son for a burnt offering. Abraham rose up early morning the next day, saddled his ass, took 2 of his young men, and Isaac his son, wood for the burnt offering and went to the place which God had told him. His faith was strong and steadfast. He considered that God is able to rise up Isaac even from the dead (Hebr.11:19). So by faith he had actually offered Isaac already as burnt offering and by faith, saw God raising him from the dead. As Abraham stretched forth his hand and took the knife to slay him, God’s intervention flowed in. Instead of Isaac, the attitude of complete obedience with strong faith of Abraham was accepted as the burnt offering. God’s intervention indeed comes as a mighty flood, overthrowing the existing circumstances and making room for the glorious manifestation of His love and mercy in lives, who submit to obey without questioning or doubting His love. Had God not intervened in this way, this trial would have been much more painful ! This intervention marked the turning point of Abraham’s life deeper into His presence and intimacy with the Lord, so much so that God called him , “His friend” (James 2:23). When Abraham took the knife to slay his son, the next step any mind could have seen in mind would only be a ‘slain child’ laying before Abraham. But God proved that no time is too late for Him to intervene. A fraction of a second or a twinkling of an eye is enough to see a drastic change in the whole scene. That’s our Lord and God, ‘the great I AM”. Let’s not try to fit His timings in our time limits.
1 Kings 19:4, “But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a [a]broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said, “It is enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!” Elijah was a mighty prophet of God. He was bold and stood all alone for the Lord. His prayerfulness caused the Lord to send fire from heaven on the altar of sacrifice, where God manifested Himself as the only true and living God. But soon Elijah was threatened by Jezebel, Ahab’s wife. And Elijah rose and went for his life. Fear gripped him and drove him deep into the wilderness physically. Mentally, he was driven to a stage where he lost the desire to live. The prophet who had stood for the Lord with boldness and with a selfless heart was now bound with fear and depression. No man saw him in this situation. None prayed for him. None came seeking for him. But the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are open unto their cry (Ps.34:15). God Himself pursued him and intervened. He sent His angels to feed him with cake and water. He made the strong wind rent the mountains and break the rock into pieces. And He spoke to Elijah in a still small voice. He brought back Elijah through the same wilderness of Damascus from where he had run off for his life. God restored him to his ministry.
How much ever one serves the Lord with how much ever boldness and zeal, let us realize that we are only dust. It takes only a few moments to enter into bondages of fear and depression. And God knows that we are dust. He intervenes like a loving Father, lifting the child into His arms, comforting and restoring one to one’s rightful place in His presence. Had God not intervened in Elijah’s life, he would have ended his life in bondages of fear and depression. But God faithfully intervened and rescued his servant. He displayed His endless mercy that rescues us.
‘Acts 9:3-5, “As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. 4 Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” During these days, Saul was described as a person who breathed out threats and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord. Acts 8 :3, “As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering every house, and dragging off men and women, committing them to prison.” People literally feared this man. He never gave his ears to gospel. He never attended a church meeting peacefully. Nor did he witness any miracle happening in His name before his eyes. But there came a time, that God pursued this life and intervened in a way, that Saul got transformed into a new life and ran the rest of his life for the Lord in a powerful way. No wickedness can remain standing before a divine intervention. No hardness of heart is beyond His reach.
There are many other instances where we see God’s interventions in the Bible. By all these, we ought to realise that we can never see limits to the power and might of our Lord. Yet, when situations are adverse for longer time, how one easily sees God in a frame work of limits. It’s important to ponder such interventions and grow in faith, which soars up with wings like eagles.
‘Ephesians 3:20-21,“ Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen’. He is able, more than able. He works according to power that works in us. His power is accessible only through growing faith in Him. The more one grows in faith, the more mighty works one witnesses in one’s life. The works He does is EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY above we ask or imagine. We ask or imagine within a set framework built up on the basis of our knowledge and experience. But we serve a God who has absolutely no limits. May our hearts open up and our minds renewed to expect great interventions from heaven, all for is glory alone.
GOD bless us all.
