The Lord is His name !
Ex. 2 : 23-25, ‘’So God heard their groaning, and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 25 And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God acknowledged them.’’
The Egyptians afflicted the Israelites for they feared that they would outgrow in number and would join their enemies in case of any attack. But the Israelites kept growing in number for the Lord had promised Abraham that He would make him a great nation. The weapons formed against us can never stop the promises of God come to pass. They groaned in pain and in much pain. And their cry came up to God.
God heard their groaning : In a world, where there is none to hear any one’s cry, the Word of God says that the Lord God’s eyes are open unto the cry of righteous. Ps.34:15, ‘’The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry. “ We see this situation of Israelites since the 1st chapter of Exodus. During this time, Moses was born. He grew up to be a man, went to Midian to escape the threat of the Egyptians. And all these while, the affliction of the Israelites continued. Gen.15: 13 says that they were afflicted for 400 years. But there came a time, when God did hear their cry. It does not mean that He did not hear all those 400 years. But now came the time to respond to their cry. Even when we feel that God is silent before our cry, let’s realise that He is not silent. But in fact He is waiting for the right time to act upon our behalf.
God remembered His covenant : God had promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that He would give the land of Canaan as inheritance to their seed Gen.15:18. And now it was the time to act on this. The groanings of the Israelites caused God to remember the promises made to them. The only way to see our promises come to pass is to keep praying fervently and effectively over the same till we see them come to pass. God remembered Hannah and the promise He gave her, when she expressed her faith with a joyful countenance and worship. And soon the promised baby was seen in her womb. God remembered Abraham and his prayers for Lot, and He rescued them from the wrath that fell on Sodom and Gomorrah. God remembering us refers to the time to act on the promises made by Him. He always remembers us. He is a God who can never forget us. But His ways are above our ways and His thoughts are above ours. Hannah and Abraham continued to bear the fruit of righteousness and God remembered them. If we feel that God has forgotten the promises made to us, let’s examine the fruits we are bearing on a steadfast basis.
God looked upon the children of Israel : Is.66:2, ‘’But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word.’’ God looked upon them and considered their cry seriously. He can never walk past the tears of a broken hearted person. ‘Poor’’ is the one who is poor in Spirit or who always has an eager thirst for His presence. Such lives are righteous lives for they are sensitive to God’s Word and they respond rightly to His Word. Israelites responded to their affliction by crying unto God. They kept their hope in the living God in the midst of people who worshipped idols. They responded to their situation rightly for they believed that the living God whom their fathers worshipped would never abandon them. They had only heard from their fathers about the Lord and His doings. They had great faith that the Lord would surely deliver them.
God acknowledged them : The Lord expressed His concern for them. In the very following verses, in Exodus 3, we see the Lord visiting Moses and literally persuading him like a man persuading his friend. Moses presented many reasons in order to avoid the role being given to him. But the Lord’s concern for the Israelites could not be put away any longer. He persuaded Moses till he agreed. The creator persuading his creation in order to bring deliverance to a nation crying out to Him day and night is beyond our human understanding. Let us not assume that our Lord is not concerned about our trials and pains of life. When He starts expressing His concern for us, its beyond expression in words. Its just awesome. The following chapters have recorded the great and mighty works through which the Lord delivered His people from the heavy yoke of the Egyptians.
The Israelites saw the great work which the Lord did upon the Egyptians and they feared the Lord. They believed Him and His servant Moses. Ex. 15: 1-3, ‘’Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to the Lord, and spoke, saying: “I will sing to the Lord, For He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea! 2 The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation; He is my God, and I will praise Him; My father’s God, and I will exalt Him. 3 The Lord is a man of war; The Lord is His name.’’
The Word asks us to cast our burdens on to Him, for He cares for us. The Israelites were redeemed from the slavery to Egyptians. The Lord has redeemed us from the great yoke of slavery to sin. He paid the price for our salvation. He continues to guide us and prepare us for His glorious coming. He is a man of war. He teaches us how to war and He himself fights our wars. The Lord is His name. Let us continue to keep our hope only in Him. For He hears us, He remembers what He promised us, He looks at us and He acknowledges us.

The incense of prayers stops the plague
Numb.16: 47-48, ‘47 Then Aaron took it as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and already the plague had begun among the people. So he put in the incense and made atonement for the people. 48 And he stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped. God lead the Israelites out of Egypt. […]
